If there is one body organ that does not really serve any purpose that would be the appendix. It’s a big question why it exists. Despite the many theories surrounding the probable purpose the appendix serves, its purpose still remains a mystery.
Unfortunately, despite its apparent uselessness, appendicitis can cause your death. When you develop appendicitis, you will need to undergo an operation to have it removed. Curiously, however, once the appendix is removed, you will live just fine. In truth, this is not surprising considering that the organ does not seem to serve any purpose. So, how do you know if you are exhibiting symptoms of appendicitis?
The Primary Symptom – Severe Abdominal Pain
First of all, appendicitis occurs when your appendix becomes suddenly swollen for no obvious reasons. It can happen to you regardless of your age or sex; although, it occurs more in people between the ages of 10 and 35.
The first thing that you will likely experience if you are suffering from appendicitis is abdominal pain. It is nowhere near the kind of pain you will suffer with indigestion or gas. People suffering from pain caused by appendicitis will likely rate their pain between 8 and 10 and even over 10. Indeed, this pain can be debilitating. People usually find relief by lying on their side and bending their knees upwards toward their chest. It’s highly unlikely that you can relieve the pain by taking painkillers. Only surgery can effectively relieve and remove the pain.
The symptoms of appendicitis usually start with a localized vague abdominal pain. Usually, the pain would start somewhere near the belly button or the navel. Over 24 hours, this pain will eventually move to the lower right abdomen.
Other Symptoms of Appendicitis
The classic symptoms include nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting and fever. Not all people suffering from the disease, however, experience all these symptoms. In fact, there are people who suffer the debilitating pain without any other accompanying symptoms of appendicitis. Commonly, however, people suffer only a combination of symptoms.
The full-blown symptoms of appendicitis take time to develop. In fact, it may take up to 48 hours or 2 days for you to develop signs indicating appendicitis. During this time, you may experience varying degree of pain. You may lose your appetite and you may experience bouts of vomiting. There are people who have reported diarrhea or constipation while many also reported no change in their bowel movements or habits.
Unfortunately, it can be difficult to diagnose appendicitis in its early stages since there are other stomach conditions that manifest similar symptoms. People suffering from gastroenteritis, for one, suffer from stomach and intestinal inflammation. They also suffer from severe abdominal pain. Because the symptoms are fairly similar, there are many people actually suffering from appendicitis who leave the hospital with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis. These cases are especially common in children and the elderly. Often, they have fewer symptoms of appendicitis, so it is far more difficult to diagnose them properly. Unfortunately, misdiagnosis often leads to severe complications.
The appendix does not serve any purpose, but appendicitis is not something you can ignore or trifle with. If you are showing symptoms of appendicitis, you should visit your physician immediately. There is no cure for the pain except surgery.

How to recognize the symptoms of appendicitis
could i be pregnant?
about 2 weeks ago i had unprotected sex….
but the day after i took the morning after pill…
someone told me that sometimes the morning after pill doesn’t work…
well lately ive been sick..
like wanting to vomit but don’t, chest pains, breasts pain, dizziness, abdominal pain, lower back, sometimes mid back, always tired, always hungry, constipation, sweat when its really cold, sometimes feel like i have a fever. etc…
2nd
im 19 and is in college
living with my parents
and boyfriend is in the army…
my only fear is that if i tell my parents that they would kick me out of the house…
and take my car away and everything… im not working because my parents wants me to pay attention more on my courses… so i want to be ready before this happens.. does anyone knows where i can go to get some support help…
You could always get a home test as well as going to a health clinic. I recommend doing that anyway if you’re going to have unprotected sex. Go there and get birth control pills in the least! Esp if you’re truly thinking your parents would drop you like that. Those are signs of pregnancy and like the other person said could be the side effects of the morning after pill…it’s not something someone online can tell you, you need to test as soon as it’s possible to.
When you miss your period, you can go get a test at a drug store or something, take it, if it says you’re pregnant chances are…you are…if it says you aren’t keep in mind the test could have been wrong. So again…I’d go to a free clinic in the least if you’re too scared to go to a gynecologist in fear of what your parents would think.
Based off what you told us you have a good thing going for you…remember that. You’re living with your parents, you have a car from them, they pay for everything you don’t have to work, you’re only 19 and in college and you have a boyfriend who cares about you. If you’re going to have sex, be smart about it. And also remember that the pill doesn’t always work so if you don’t use a condom at least go with the pill & the pull and pray method. I pay/paid for college all on my own, bought my first car, and worked in college. My parents thought I’d appreciate it more…well everything more..if I earned it on my own. So unless you want to have to pay rent, pay for college, find some other means of transportation and raise a kid all on your own I’d really think twice before you make that move again!
Good luck with every thing, hopefully it’s just a side effect.

In all honesty, this is something you should be asking a qualified doctor. Unless you luck out and a doctor versed in UC is in Y!A and reading this, you’re not likely to get a decent answer that you should run with.
Go see a doctor and get their professional advice.

why is the pain under my right shoulder gallbladder if I am not having stomach pain?
I have been to doctor ive had chest x ray gallbladder ultrsound
bloodwork to check for blood clot and the only thing the ultrasound showed was slight thickness in gallbladder no stones ( I drank water before test) everything has come back normal I am in pain constantly and advil won’t help could I have a pinched nerve in my right shoulder My doc says surgery for ballbladder to remove it Im not sure if that is the problem how do I find out without forking out more money for tests?
I believe you may have cholecystis which is an inflammation of the gallbladder. It causes the wall(s) of the gallbladder to thicken. Drinking water before an ultrasound does not alter the test in any way.
Gallbladder attacks usually cause pain that radiates to the back of the right shoulder. I have no abdominal pain with my cholecystis, only chest and upper right back pain.
When you eat fats, the intestines release a hormone known as cholecytokinin that causes the gallbladder to contract and empty its bile content. I would recommend a HIDA scan of your gallbladder to see how well it is functioning. They will inject you with radio-active pigment foll wed with cholecytokinin while taking internal pictures. The ultrasound shows the inside of the gallbladder while the HIDA scan shows its function.
My HIDA scan showed my gallbladder contractions at only 8% vs. the healthy 40%. I have no gallstones and have surgery planned for next week.

Abdominal Pain?
Hi, I’m a 15 years old female. I’ve been noticing pain at the right side of my belly button. The area of pain is about 2-3 centimers away from my belly button. It hurts to press, bend over, breathe deeply, and cough. The severity of the pain depends at times because sometimes it hurts so much that I can barely stand and just have to sit down until the pain subsides and sometimes the pain is very dull and I’m able to walk and do my daily things. There are no other symptoms except the pain, vomitting, and nausea. If I press in the area, whatever I’m feeling feels very hard and I don’t know if that’s normal or not. I’ve been wondering if it’s my appendix but my pain has been lasting about 2 weeks or so and if it was my appendix, my appendix would have ruptured and I would be on the verge of death right now. I’ve been thinking about what kind of organs are to the right of my belly button except my intestines. Can you help me? Thank You.
That sounds like an ovarian cyst. Make an appointment to see an OBGYN right away. If that’s what you have, you need to get it taken care of as soon as possible.
